While yoga, as a form of physical exercise, is a great way to improve mobility and strength in people with osteoporosis, research reveals that yoga poses that exerts great pressure on the spine can cause injury and fracture.

Individuals with osteoporosis have reduce bone density which makes their bones weak and vulnerable to pressure. Therefore, they should avoid physical activity that puts extreme pressure and stress on their bones.

Yoga is considered a low to medium intensity exercise which many people find appealing because of it's simplicity and incredible health benefits. It is undeniable that doing yoga does grant individuals with several health advantages such as increase joint mobility, improve muscle strength, and reduce weight.

It is worth knowing that yoga takes various forms. Yoga can incorporate meditation, breathing exercise, and physical poses in varying pacing and intensity. While there are strenuous poses, there are low impact yoga poses that does not compromise the spine which people with osteoarthritis can safely practice in general.

It is recommended that those afflicted with osteoporosis consult with their health care provider or physical therapist to create a suitable exercise regimen that is customized to their physical ability and health needs.

Osteoporosis causes the bone to become fragile so it is crucial to avoid too much exertion on it. It's not just extreme yoga poses that osteoporotic individual should be wary of. Any physical activity that puts intense weight, or flexes or extends the spine excessively can have serious repercussion.
